We were instructed by the client to replace the existing old and tired felt roofing system with a new modern system. This was a challenge as we had to ensure that the Roman Mosaic flooring was protected beneath the roof and there was no fire risk with the presence of the thatched roofing. We over come both these issues by using a protective light weight board to temporary cover over the Mosaic and for the roofing product we used Proteus waterproofing which is a cold applied Polyurethane roll on system incorporating a woven reinforcement sheets between coatings to give the system strength and flexibility, which is all cold applied thus omitting all fire risk. The roof lights were upgraded using Whitesales Polycarbonate domes and curbs. The existing timber decking was fully replaced with 18mm plywood.
The client was very pleased with the finished works and the fact they didn`t have to close the building to the public whilst the works were carried out and with it being a cold applied system their concerns with the fire risk were totally removed.
